Service point description
Completed in 1816, the Burgher's House is the oldest wooden house still in its original place in Helsinki city centre. The museum is decorated as the home of the family of fire station officer Alexander Wickholm. He bought the house for himself in 1859. In the house, you can experience the everyday life of the past and living at the home of a public servant. The items in the house have deliberately been chosen to represent different ages and styles. There are old furnishings in the bedrooms and kitchen that you can imagine were inherited or bought second-hand by a young family. The hall of the house is furnished with fine, modern furniture of that time. They show the standard of living achieved by Alexander Wickholm, an enterprising, prosperous man advancing in his career. The house is open during the summer, when small events and concerts are held in the courtyard. During the Christmas season, the Burgher's House becomes one of the most beautiful places to visit in Helsinki.
